3 Fika Spots in and Around Stockholm

One of the greatest pleasures of visiting Sweden is embracing the art of fika – that quintessential Swedish ritual of slowing down, enjoying a hot beverage, and pairing it with something sweet (preferably cinnamon-scented). In and around Stockholm, you’ll find plenty of cosy cafés perfect for this tradition, but a few stand out not just for their treats, but for their settings and atmosphere. Here are three of my favourites.

1. Rosendals Trädgårdskafé – Garden Bliss on Djurgården

Tucked away on the leafy island of Djurgården, Rosendals Trädgårdskafé is a feast for all the senses. The café sits within a charming greenhouse surrounded by biodynamic gardens bursting with flowers, herbs, and seasonal vegetables. The menu is wonderfully fresh, with many ingredients sourced straight from the gardens, and their selection of pastries is enough to make any fika enthusiast swoon – think buttery cardamom buns, fruit tarts, and rich chocolate cakes.

After your coffee break, you can stroll through the grounds, browse the plant shop, or simply find a sunny spot among the apple trees and watch the world slow down.

Address: Rosendalsterrassen 12, 115 21 Stockholm

2. Vaxholms Hembygdsgårds Café – A Seaside Slice of Summer

For a fika with a view, head out to the archipelago town of Vaxholm, just under an hour from central Stockholm by ferry or bus. Vaxholms Hembygdsgårds Café is set in a historic wooden house with a sprawling garden overlooking the water.

In summer, the café becomes a magnet for locals and visitors alike, thanks to its legendary cake buffet – a glorious spread of homemade pies, cheesecakes, and sponge cakes in every flavour imaginable. Sitting outside with a plate of something sweet, listening to the gentle clink of boats in the harbour, is pure Swedish summer magic.

Address: Trädgårdsgatan 19, 185 32 Vaxholm

3. Café Ektorpet – Countryside Charm in the Heart of the City

Just a short stroll from Rosendals Trädgårdskafé, Café Ektorpet feels like a little slice of countryside right in the middle of Stockholm. Housed in a quaint green wooden cottage surrounded by leafy gardens, it radiates rustic charm. Inside, you’ll find lace curtains, wooden tables, and the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread.

The menu is simple but satisfying, with hearty sandwiches, generous slices of cake, and excellent cinnamon and cardamom buns. Thanks to its quiet location and cosy interior, it’s an ideal spot for a slower-paced fika — and you could easily visit it alongside Rosendals for a delicious double fika day.

Address: Prins Eugens Väg 3, 115 21 Stockholm

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re wandering through Stockholm’s gardens, hopping between islands, or venturing out into the archipelago, these spots offer more than just great coffee and cake – they serve up a true taste of Swedish hospitality.
