4 Stockholm Restaurants That Won’t Break the Bank (+1 Bonus Pick)

Stockholm has a reputation for being one of Europe’s priciest capitals—and while that holds some truth, it is possible to eat well without draining your travel budget. After two visits to this stylish and food-loving city, I’ve uncovered a handful of restaurants that deliver big on taste, atmosphere, and local charm—without the sticker shock.

Whether you're craving traditional Swedish fare or a taste of the Mediterranean, these spots offer satisfying meals at reasonable prices, all while giving you a genuine slice of Stockholm.

1. Stockholms Gästabud – For Classic Swedish Comforts in Gamla Stan

Tucked into a cozy corner of Gamla Stan, Stockholms Gästabud delivers exactly what you hope for in a traditional Swedish meal: hearty, homemade classics served in a relaxed, rustic setting. Think meatballs with lingonberries and creamy mashed potatoes, or gravlax and pickled herring that taste like they’ve come straight from a local’s kitchen. It’s popular with both tourists and locals, so come early or be prepared to wait—it’s worth it.

During our visit, we tried the meatballs and the slow-cooked pork cheeks, and neither dish disappointed. In fact, the meatballs were possibly the best we’ve ever had! On a hot summer day, don’t miss their Swedish Spritz—a refreshing local twist on the Italian classic, made with a Swedish strawberry and rhubarb liqueur in place of Aperol.

Address: Österlånggatan 7, 111 31 Stockholm
Approx. 250–300 SEK for a main

2. Ristorante Paganini – Italian Hospitality in the Heart of the Old Town

Also in Gamla Stan, Paganini is the kind of Italian restaurant that makes you feel instantly welcome. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about their food. It’s not the cheapest pasta in town, but the quality and service make it feel like a steal considering its location. Their homemade fettuccine and tiramisu were standouts for me—and dining by candlelight in the cobbled charm of Stockholm’s Old Town just adds to the experience.

During our visit, we went for the Menu Piccolo, which included bruschetta caprese, fettuccine alla Paganini, and a classic tiramisu. Every bite was spot on, and the attention to detail made the evening feel truly special.

Make sure to reserve a table in advance!

Address: Västerlånggatan 75, 111 29 Stockholm
Approx. 250–350 SEK for a main, or 499 SEK for a 3 course set menu

3. Maestro – A Greek Favourite with Södermalm Soul

Step into Maestro and you’ll instantly feel like you’ve stumbled into a hidden neighbourhood gem. Located in relaxed, artsy Södermalm, this unassuming Greek taverna serves up generous portions of souvlaki, moussaka, and grilled meats at very reasonable prices. The setting is low-key and local in the best way, and the food hits the spot—especially after a long day of walking the city.

Address: Ringvägen 82, 118 60 Stockholm
Approx. 250–350 SEK for a main

4. Restaurang Kouzina – A Modern Greek Eatery in Stylish Östermalm

Kouzina offers a more modern take on Greek cuisine in a light, contemporary space in Östermalm. It's casual, lively, and perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. Their meze plates are ideal for sharing, and the vibe is cheerful and welcoming. If you’re staying in this part of town, it’s an easy go-to that won’t blow the budget. Always packed with locals—you’ll likely be the only tourist!

We went for their three-course sharing set menu, which included skordopsomo, tzatziki, kopanisti, Greek salad, phyllo dough-baked feta cheese, and halloumi for starters; beef patties, chicken skewers, Angus steak, country sausage, sautéed vegetables, and sliced fried potatoes for mains; and baklava, chocolate truffle, vanilla ice cream, and berries for dessert. All this for just 535 SEK per person!

Address: Valhallavägen 131, 115 31 Stockholm
Approx. 250–350 SEK for a main

Honourable Mention: Wärdshuset Ulla Winbladh – A Taste of Old Stockholm

While not the cheapest of places, Ulla Winbladh is still worth mentioning. Located just at the edge of Djurgården, this elegant inn-like restaurant has long been a favourite among Stockholmers looking for quality food in a timeless setting. We stopped by for a light lunch and were impressed by the service and attention to detail. If you're looking to treat yourself or just want a stylish spot to rest your feet mid-sightseeing, this is a great choice for a rich and hearty fish soup or traditional meatballs, or simply a slice of cake and some tea or coffee.

Address: Rosendalsvägen 8, 115 21 Stockholm
Lunch mains start around 300 SEK
